Biomedical laboratory uses VAV fume hoods and heat recovery to save fuel costs.

Type of article: Article
Summary
A modular tenant-occupied laboratory building is built with variable volume fume extract terminals and air-conditioned supply. Waste energy pre-heats make-up air. Summer exhaust air pre-cools air intake using glycol run-around coils. A scale model was tunnel tested to optimise air inlet and outlet positions. Payback time for energy savings is 2.2 years. A.R.T.
