Boiling on a wire under microgravity conditions first results from a space experiment performed in May 1996.

Author(s) : STRAUB J., MICKO S.

Summary

Experiments for the investigation of pool boiling heat transfer have been performed under microgravity conditions aboard the Space Shuttle STS 77 in the autonomous Get Away Special system in May 1996. The boiling process was studied with R134a using platinum wires, as heaters and simultaneously as resistance thermometers to determine the average temperature of the heater. The heat flux and the temperature of the heater as well as the liquid temperature around the heaters were measured. Results are given.
