Nucleation site interactions in pool boiling.

Summary

In nucleate boiling heat transfer the wall superheat is not uniform. Nucleation sites can interact by a variety of processes that change the local superheat and the other parameters that determine the stability of nuclei. The interactions affect the number of active sites and cause intermittency in their production of bubbles. The paper describes preliminary experiences of applying the analytical methods of nonlinear dynamics firstly to simulated data generated by an idealised model of two interacting sites, then to real experimental data for the temperature-time series at a nucleation site.
