Butane, as a refrigerant for a solar-driven ejector refrigeration system.

Summary

In this paper, the properties, thermodynamic characteristics and safety issues of n-butane and isobutane are discussed. The effect of the operating conditions on a solar-driven ejector refrigeration system with n-butane and isobutane is studied. The whole system was modelled by using the TRNSYS program but the model of the ejector refrigeration sub-system is developed in the engineering equations solver program. The solar collector subsystem and the load are modelled by using TRNSYS. The performance of the whole system is presented in the form of the system thermal ratio, which depends on both the COP of the ejector refrigeration subsystem and solar collector efficiency. The simulation results show that the system using normal butane has slightly better performance than the system using isobutane.
