Car fueling with liquid hydrogen.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The inception and early history of the German car refuelling programme are reviewed and details are given of a liquid hydrogen filling station and its accompanying safety aspects. Flow diagrams of a car and filling station are detailed and results of refuelling tests carried out in 1991 and 1992 are also discussed. A reduction in refuelling time from 60 to less than 20 minutes in one year is a significant improvement but the development of a liquid hydrogen infrastructure to satisfy demand is a long way off.
