Summary

A cascaded energy plant for a pharmaceutical industry developed and implemented to generate chilled water at 7°C and hot water at 58°C for the required applications, using ammonia absorption refrigeration system. The low pressure steam operated system has been developed using GAX concept both in the low pressure and high pressure side in addition economizer, lean cooler and multiple refrigerant vapour entry in the falling film vertical absorber. For the tested conditions at the heat input temperature of 147°C, cooling process water inlet temperature of 30°C and chilled water inlet temperature of 15°C, the system delivers the cooling and heating COP’s of 0.6 and 1.53 respectively. The developed system delivers over 300–430 kW of cooling load and 700-1100 kW of heating load respectively depending up on the plant load requirement since installation.
