Summary

Ceiling cooling has recently come to the fore. It is especially useful when thermal comfort is required in a room subjected to high energy loads. It is not, however, a panacea for cooling problems. In particular, conventional ceiling cooling systems are incapable of purging the room air of solid particles. To accomplish this, a secondary air exchange is necessary. The optional response to room air quality requirements will require a correct matching of air circulation and ceiling cooling. Concerns about diminishing thermal comfort impose fewer limitations on particle elimination through ceiling cooling than does the need to suppress condensation buildup. A list of manufacturers of cooled ceilings is included.
