CFCS WERE FIRST DEVELOPED IN THE EARLY THIRTIES, SPECIALLY FOR USE IN REFRIGERATION ENGINEERING. BEING BOTH NON-FLAMMABLE AND NON-TOXIC, THEY WERE CONSIDERED TO BE < SAFE REFRIGERANTS >. HOWEVER, NEW FINDINGS IN THE LAST 2 DECADES HAVE RAISED SOME MISGIVINGS CONCERNING THEIR CONTINUED USE AS REFRIGERANTS.
