CFC-FREE POLYURETHANE FOAMS.

MOUSSES DE POLYURETHANE SANS CFC.

Type of article: Article

Summary

THE AUTHOR DEFINES THE USUAL COMPOSITION OF POLYURETHANE FOAMS AND THE REACTIONS WHICH TAKE PLACE IN THEIR FABRICATION. HE REPORTS MEASUREMENTS ON THE TIME-DEPENDENT CHANGES IN THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF EXPANDED FOAM WITH THE CLASSICAL QUANTITY OF R11,COMPARED WITH A FOAM EXPANDED WITH 50 % OF THIS QUANTITY AND WITH A FOAM COMPLETELY FREE OF R11. HE INDICATES SOME OTHER FOAMING AGENTS WHICH CAN BE USED (R123, R141B, PENTANE, LBL2), AND THEIR CHARACTERISTICS. HE STUDIES THE COMPOSITIONOF GAS CONTAINED IN CELLS (BY THEIR PARTIAL PRESSURE) AND ITS TIME-DEPENDENT CHANGES BY COMPARING FOAMS EXPANDED WITH R11, R123 AND R141B. THE AUTHOR THINKS THAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO DEVELOP A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR FINDING SUBSTITUTE FOAMING AGENTS AND NEW POLYMERS WHICH WOULD ACHIEVE SATISFACTORY INSULATING FOAMS WITHOUT R11. J.R.
