Summary

Sorption dehumidification of air has become the focus of attention as an alternative to conventional dehumidification process by air cooling below the dew point. Liquid desiccant using LiCl solution has advantages over conventional solid desiccants, because the energy loss per hydration-dehydration process cycle is smaller for liquid desiccant than it is for typical solid desiccant. An open cycle absorption type dehumidifier using LiCl solution can be driven by low grade waste heat and is effective for saving energy. However, a detailed analysis of the characteristics of the system has not been clearly investigated. The purpose of the paper is to evaluate a performance of the dehumidifier using LiCl solution on condition that air conditioning is driven in hot and high humid summer climate in Japan. In the paper, first, a packed bed as a part of absorption type dehumidifier is evaluated in which heat and mass transfer occur simultaneously, and second, the characteristics of dehumidifier is investigated as the whole system.
