Summary

This volume is companion to two other volumes from the IPCC (see preceeding abstract and Bull. 96.6, abstract 96-3847). The consequences of climate change for society are analyzed in the book. It assesses the available knowledge on the many issues that society has to face, including: international decision-making framework; applicability to climate change of techniques for assessing costs and benefits; the significant social costs, which differ widely from region to region, of projected climated change; and the economic assessment of policy instruments to combat climate change, nationally and internationally.
