Summary

RESEARCH WAS DONE TO FIND COATINGS FOR PROTECTING EQUIPMENT IN CONTACT WITH AN ELECTROLYTE. THE AUTHORS FOUND THAT: 1) PAINT USED TO PROTECT BOATS IS IDEAL FOR MACHINES IN WHICH A WATER-CALCIUM CHLORIDE SOLUTION IS USED FOR THE SECONDARY COOLANT ; 2) AN EXTRA COAT OF ENAMEL RAISED THE PROTECTIVE ACTION OF THE COATING CONSIDERABLY AT TEMPERATURES FROM 293 TO 228 K (20 TO -45 DEG C) ; AND 3) FLAWS IN THE COATING CONTINUITY (INCLUDING EXPOSURE OF SMALL, HARD-TO-REACH PARTS) DO NOT NECESSARILY LOWER ITS PROTECTIVE ACTION.
