Summary
Most common colds are caused by rhinoviruses and coronaviruses. These viruses are now thought to provoke the majority of asthmatic attacks in children. Air pollution appears to predispose to viral infections of the upper respiratory tract. Current studies may clarify whether air pollution may make these virus-induced attacks more frequent and/or severer.
