Summary

Occupational physicians working with service industry employees often faces anxiety or complaints concerning air-conditioning systems. The paper aims at helping the physician to analyse the actual situations before and during his examination of the offices and the technical premises. Appendices: ailments encountered in air-conditioned spaces, thermal comfort (comfort and discomfort indexes), measurements to be carried out (of gas and vapours, dust, air velocity, dry-temperature, humidity, sound level, etc), air quality, circuit of conditioned air (operation, cooling tower), regulations and current standards.
