Comparison and possible improvements of heat transfer coefficients for different types of condensers for domestic refrigerators.

Author(s) : RIVIS E.

Summary

An analysis of three different types of condensers used in household refrigerators was performed. The influence of some parameters was investigated. The distance between the rear wall of the refrigerator and the wall of the room was found to have a strong influence. The wire and tube condensers were about 10-16% more efficient than Reyert condensers. For condensers with a tube and a plate, some possible modifications in order to improve efficiency were investigated. With the "chimney effect" an improvement of 5% was obtained. A material with a high heat transfer coefficient between the tubes and the plate resulted in an 8% improvement. The length of the louvers has also an influence: from 4 to 8 mm condenser efficiency increased 4%.
