Summary
Air-source heat pump is attractive for the highly-efficient and low carbon heating supply. However, the current commercial air-source heat pumps cannot meet the increasing industrial high-temperature heat demand, due to its limited temperature lift. In this paper, three types of air-source cascading heat pump systems with large temperature lift are analyzed, including a three-stage cascade compression heat pump system with R134a-R245fa-R1233zd(E), a single-effect absorption heat transformer cascaded with two-stage R134a-R245fa compression heat pump, and a double absorption heat transformer coupled with R134a compression heat pump. The performance optimization, parameter study and second law analysis are performed and compared, under source temperature of 0-30 oC and output temperature of over 100 oC. The optimized coupling temperature between temperature stages of each system is found to obtain the highest coefficient of performance (COP). Under the heat source temperature of 30 oC and the output temperature of 100-150 oC, three analyzed cycles obtain COP of 3.0-1.9, 2.3-1.6 and 1.5-1.2, respectively. The cascade compression heat pump has the highest COP, while the absorption-compression heat pump could achieve higher output temperature and higher capacity with well-commercialized refrigerant.
