Summary

THE AUTHORS HAVE COMPARED THE LOW-FREQUENCY CAPACITANCE OF GLA SS THERMOMETERS OF VARIOUS SHAPES, MADE OF VERY PURE SILICON DIOXIDE DOPED WITH ABOUT 1,200 PPM OH-, FROM 4 TO 100 MILLIK IN A FIELD OF 9 T. THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE ELECTRODES, THE WAY THE CONTACTS ARE MADE AND THE CONNECTION INFLUENCE THE VOLTAGE AND THE FIELD DEPENDENCE OF THE CAPACITANCE AND OF THE LOSS. THE AUTHORS CONSTRUCTED CAPACITIVE GLASS THERMOMETERS OF WHICH THE CAPACITANCE IS NOT SHIFTED IN A FIELD OF 9 T AT 4 MILLIK, WITHIN A TEMPERATURE ACCURACY OF ABOUT 5%. THIS HAS BEEN DETERMINED BY COMPARISON WITH A CERIUM MAGNESIUM NITRATE THERMOMETER IN A FIELD-FREE REGION, AND BY COMPARING ULTRASOUND MEASUREMENTS WITH AND WITHOUT A MAGNETIC FIELD.
