Summary

The article presents a series of transparencies on polymers, including the following aspects: history and common (mis)perceptions; description of a polymer; current research efforts and the links between them. The author concludes that improvements are possible in the mechanical properties of polymers at cryogenic temperatures, but that a better understanding is needed of the molecular networks formed during polymerisation.
