COMPUTATION OF THE EFFECT OF CYCLED REFRIGERATION ON MINE CLIMATE.

Summary

HEAT AND MOISTURE TRANSFER RATES IN MINE AIRWAYS CAN BE COMPUTED RELATIVELY EASILY ON MICROCOMPUTERS. THE PAPER DESCRIBES HOW THE EFFECT OF REFRIGERATING THE AIR FOR PART OF EACH DAY CAN BE COMPUTED AND A METHOD WHICH ACCOUNTS FOR THE AIR-TEMPERATURE HISTORY. IT IS SHOWN THAT IT IS NECESSARY TO INCLUDE THE TEMPERATURE HISTORY TO OBTAIN ACCURATE ESTIMATES OF THE EFFECT OF NON-STEADY CONDITIONS. THE PAPER CONCLUDES WITH EXAMPLES OF SOME OF THE TRADE-OFFS BETWEEN CONTINUOUS AND CYCLED REFRIGERATION.
