Computer control: the direction taken in industrial refrigeration.

Author(s) : STOECKER W. F.

Summary

The fields of environmental control of buildings and industrial refrigeration are somewhat related, and it might be expected that the computer-controlled systems regulating these two types of facilities would be very similar. Such is not the case, however, and different approaches are taken in the two fields, and two different groups of firms design and install computer controllers in the two fields. The computers providing environmental control of buildings have grown to replace pneumatic-control systems providing predominantly analog regulation, while the computer controllers for industrial refrigeration grew out of discrete (on-off) operations represented by ladder diagrams.
