Summary

THE PROCEDURE CONSISTS OF EVALUATING HEATING AND COOLING LAG CORRECTIONS AND OF STATISTICAL ESTIMATION OF THE PARAMETRIC VALUES WHICH ARE USED TO DEFINE SURVIVOR AND THERMAL DEATH TIME CURVES. FOR HEATING AND COOL-LAG CORRECTIONS, TEMPERATURE HISTORY CURVES OF MICROBIAL SUSPENSIONS, WHICH ARE COLLECTED DURING HEATING AND COOLING LAG PERIODS, ARE ITERATIVELY INTEGRATED TO ESTIMATE STERILIZING VALUES. THE LAG CORRECTIONS ARE THEN ACCOMPLISHED BY MODIFIYING EXPERIMENTAL HEATING TIMES THROUGH THE USE OF THESE STERILIZING VALUES. THE MODIFIED HEATING TIMES AND MICROBIAL SURVIVAL CONCENTRATIONS ARE USED TO ESTIMATE PARAMETRIC VALUES REQUIRED FOR DEFINING SURVIVOR AND THERMAL DEATH TIME CURVES. ONE MAY SPECIFY OPTIONS ON THE USE OF WEIGHING FACTORS AND ALSO ON THE TYPES OF ERROR VARIANCES IN THE COMPUTERIZED PROCEDURE.THE DEVELOPED PROCEDURE IS APPLIED TO ANALYSE DATA ON THE THERMAL INACTIVATION OF BACILLUS STEAROTHERMOPHILUS IAM 1035 SPORES BEEN OBSERVED THAT THE PARAMETRIC VALUES AND THEIR CONFIDENCE INTERVALS DEPEND SLIGHTLY ON THE SELECTIONS OF THE OPTIONS AVAILABLE IN THE PROCEDURE.
