Conceptual design of an automated cryosurgical system.

Summary

Cryosurgery is a way of treating cancer and tumours by applying cold. A conceptual design of an automated cryosurgical system is presented here. The setup consists of a cryoprobe holder which can execute three dimensional translation movements with the help of stepper motors. The liquid nitrogen base cryosurgical system is used for cryosurgery. An interfacing unit is built in the laboratory for control of the stepper motor with the help of computer. The data acquisition system is also provided to record and store the temperature data in computer which can be further processed. A software package which will interconnect various commercial available packages like Matlab, Origin and AutoCAD to help in data processing and designing of components is under development.
