Summary

In the present work, condensation tests are performed with the binary mixture R513A (R1234yf/R134a at 56.0/44.0% by mass composition) and the ternary mixture R516A (R1234yf/R152a/R134a at 77.5/14/8.5% by mass composition) inside a channel with inner diameter equal to 3.38 mm. Both the mixtures are azeotropic and can be considered as drop-in refrigerants for R134a: R513A has a GWP100-years equal to 573 and is classified as A1 by ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 34 whereas R516A has a GWP100-years equal to 131 and is classified as A2L. Heat transfer coefficients are measured at 40 °C saturation temperature and mass flux from 50 kg m-2 s-1 to 300 kg m-2 s-1. The heat transfer test section consists of two heat exchangers for heat transfer measurements and a glass tube for flow pattern visualizations. The flow patterns are recorded by a highspeed camera. Experimental data are compared against R134a data measured in the same test section. The prediction accuracy of condensation heat transfer models is assessed against the experimental results.
