CONDENSATION OF REFRIGERANTS ON HORIZONTAL FINNED TUBES.

Summary

CONDENSATION OF PURE SATURATED VAPOURS ONHORIZONTAL HIGH DENSITY FINNED TUBES IS EXTENSIVELY EMPLOYED IN THE REFRIGERATION AND PROCESS INDUSTRY. SOME OF THE MOST RECENT THEORETICAL MODELS FOR PREDICTING HEAT TRANSFER DURING CONDENSATION ON HIGH DENSITY INTEGRAL FINNED TUBES ARE ANALYSED, AND THE RESULTS ARE COMPARED WITH AVAILABLE EXPERIMENTAL DATA ON THE CONDENSATION OF HALOGENATED REFRIGERANTS. THE RESULTS OF THIS COMPARISON SHOW THAT THE MODEL OF HONDA ET AL IS, AT PRESENT, THE BEST PREDICTION METHOD FORDETERMINING HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS DURING CONDENSATION OF HALOGENATED REFRIGERANTS ON FINNED HORIZONTAL TUBES. THIS MODEL, WHICH IS BASED ON SOUND THEORETICAL GROUND AND TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF THE PHENOMENON, HAS BEEN USED TO OPTIMIZE THE GEOMETRY OF LOW FINNED TUBES WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE SUBSTITUTE OZONE-SAFE R134A.
