Constraints and options in the design of hydrogen liquefiers.

Author(s) : NELSON W. L.

Summary

The designer of a liquid hydrogen plant has many options in the choice of technology. The object of the design is to ultimately produce the liquid hydrogen at the lowest possible cost. Each option should be evaluated in regards to capital cost, operating cost, maintenance cost, and reliability. Based on their previous experience, different designers may have different evaluations of the relative merits of competing options, especially in regard to maintenance cost and reliability. This paper discusses some of the technical options available for the design of a conventional liquid hydrogen plant.
