Summary
THIS INVESTIGATION RELATES TO A MATHEMATICAL MODEL WITH WHICH A GROUND HEAT STORE CAN BE SIMULATED. THE GROUND STORAGE BODY IS PENETRATED BY A SYSTEM OF DUCTS FOR THE SUPPLY AND ABSTRACTION OF HEAT. THE HEAT TRANSFER CHARACTERISTICS BETWEEN THE GROUND AND A DUCT SYSTEM OF THIS TYPE ARE REPRESENTED HERE BY A HEAT TRANSFER LENGTH. HEAT EXCHANGE BETWEEN THE SOIL AND THE DUCTS IS REPRESENTED IN THE MODEL BY A HEAT SOURCE OR HEAT SINK DISTRIBUTION THROUGHOUT THE STORAGE VOLUME. THE MODEL HAS BEEN USED TO INVESTIGATE THE EFFECTS OF VARIOUS PARAMETERS ON A HEAT STORE. THE STORE HAS BEEN MODELLED TO REPRESENT 20 YEARS'USE WITH AN ANNUAL CHARGE AND DISCHARGE SEQUENCE. THE EFFICIENCY, I.E. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE HEAT RECOVERED AND THE HEAT SUPPLIED, IS GIVEN FOR ABOUT 30 DIFFERENT OPERATING CASES. THE TEMPERATURE OF THE HEAT RECOVERED IS ALSO COMPARED WITH THE TEMPERATURE AT WHICH THE HEAT WAS SUPPLIED. THE PARAMETERS INVESTIGATED ARE ANCE BETWEEN THE PENETRATING DUCTS, THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF THE GROUND, THE THERMAL CAPACITY OF THE GROUND, THE CHARGING PERIOD, THE LOWEST ACCEPTABLE TEMPERATURE DURING DISCHARGING, THE THICKNESS OF THERMAL INSULATION COVER ABOVE THE STORE AND THE DEPTH TO WHICH INSULATION HAS BEEN APPLIED AROUND THE PERIPHERY OF THE STORE. ONE OF THE FACTS INDICATED BY THE INVESTIGATION IS THAT RELATIVELY LARGE GROUND VOLUMES ARE REQUIRED IF A GROUND HEAT STORE IS TO BE PROPERLY UTILISED. (SYNOP. SWED. BUILD. RES., SE.
