Summary
This new system for melting snow utilizes both the low-temperature heat retained in the ground and the heat of the sun stored over the summer. The first system has been in operation since December 1995. Through operation over the last winter, it was demonstrated that the electric power consumption and the operation cost of this system were 14 and 26 % that of the conventional electric heater system, respectively.
