CONVECTIVE COUPLING BETWEEN ZONES AND CORRESPONDING HVAC DEMAND.

Author(s) : DELORME Y., LEBRUN J.

Summary

FOR A LONG TIME CONVECTIVE COUPLING BETWEEN ZONES WAS CONSIDERED ONLY FOR COMFORT. TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT IN ENVIRONMENTAL CHAMBERS, BUT THE MEASUREMENTS WERE NEVER APPLIED TO THE CALCULATION OF CONVECTIVE COUPLING BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT ZONES OF A ROOM. COUPLING BECOMES VERY IMPORTANT IN MULTIZONE OFFICES OR IN VERY HIGH ROOMS. IN OFFICE BUILDINGS, THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THE SIMULTANEOUS REQUIREMENT OF HEATING AND COOLING IN PERIMETER AND CENTRAL ZONES. NEGLECTING COUPLING WOULD LEAD TO OVERESTIMATE THE HEATING LOAD IN THE PERIMETER AND THE COOLING LOAD IN CENTRAL ZONES. IN FACT, THE TEMPERATURES OF THE DIFFERENT ZONES TEND TO EQUALISE. TILL SATISFACTORY TEST DATA ON COUPLING IS AVAILABLE, COMPUTER SIMULATION CAN GIVE A ROUGH ESTIMATION AND PROVIDES SOME EVALUATION OF COUPLING.
