COOLING AND AIR CONDITIONING WITH SOLAR ENERGY.

Summary

AMONG THE DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGIES THAT HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATED SO FAR, COLD PRODUCTION THROUGH THEUSE OF CERTAIN CHEMICAL REACTIONS, ESPECIALLY FROM SALTS WITH AMMONIA, SEEMS PROMIS PRELIMINARY TESTS ON A 200 LITER COOLING BOX HAVE BEEN PERFORMED WITHIN THE FIRST PHASE OF THE STUDY. DUE TO THE POSITIVE RESULTS OBTAINED, DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES ARE NOW CONCENTRATED ON IMPROVING THE REACTION VELOCITY AND REVERSIBILITY. A SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT OF THE HEAT CONDUCTIVITY AND TRANSFER COULD BE OBTAINED BY MIXING THE SELECTED SALT WITH SPECIALLY PREPARED GRAPHITE. DIFFERENT CONFIGURATIONS OF COOLING SYSTEMS ARE CONCEIVABLE HAVING A THEORETICAL COP OF ABOUT 2. FOR SOLAR APPLICATIONS, SUCH COMBINED SYSTEMS WILL PROBABLY HAVE AN OVERALL COP (COOLING TO SOLAR) IN THE RANGE OF 0.8.
