THIS PAPER REVIEWS THE CURRENT TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE FOR DIFFERENT MODES OF SOLAR AIR CONDITIONINGAND REFRIGERATION. THE USE OF SOLAR HEAT AND/OR SOLAR ELECTRICITY FOR DRIVING DIFFERENT TYPES OF COOLERS IS ILLUSTRATED. THE COOLING SYSTEMS DISCUSSED ARE A DESICCANT TYPE, AN ABSORPTION TYPE, A RANKINE/COMPRESSION TYPE AND A THERMOELECTRIC HEAT PUMP. THE PROGRESS MADE IN SOLAR HEAT COLLECTION AND SOLAR ELECTRICITY GENERATION IS MENTIONED IN THIS CONTEXT.
