Summary

A MATHEMATICAL MODEL HAS BEEN DEVELOPED TO DETERMINE THE INFLUENCE ON OPERATING TEMPERATURE OF LIQUID INJECTION IN A RECIPROCATING COMPRESSOR. THE MODEL IS BASED ON SIMPLE HYPOTHESES, IE INJECTION AND INSTANTANEOUS VAPORIZATION OF THE LIQUID DELIVERED BY THE CONDENSER, COMPRESSION AND EXPANSION OF THE VOID POLYTROPIC VOLUME AND ASSUMPTION OF AN IDEAL FLUID. IN THE APPLICATION PRESENTED, THE REDUCTION IN THE COMPRESSOR DISCHARGE SUPERHEAT, UNDER OPTIMUM CONDITIONS OF REGULATING THE MASS OF THE LIQUID AND THE MOMENT OF INJECTION, IS ABOUT 50 K AND THE LOSS IN COP IS ABOUT 1% OR EVEN LOWER. LIQUID INJECTION ALSO CONTRIBUTED TO ECONOMIZING ON ABOUT A QUARTER OF THE CONDENSER'S SURFACE AREA.
