Summary
Low-temperature refrigerated cabinets for biological samples (-80 to -150 deg C) constitute a fairly active market in industrialized countries. In Europe, French and German manufacturers currently make refrigerated cabinets with an internal temperature of -80 or -150 deg C. To reduce freezing damage to the stored samples, cabinets at lower temperatures are used, down to -135, -140 and even -150 deg C, temperatures lower than that at which ice crystals change their shape. The article describes the various refrigeration systems used.
