FIRES IN COOLING TOWERS, PARTICULARLY WHERE A WOODEN FILL IS USED, ARE NOT UNCOMMON. EVEN WHEN OPERATING, CONTROL OFTEN PRODUCES DRY AREAS WHICH ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO CONTACT IGNITION FROM OUTSIDE SOURCES OR ELECTRICAL FIRES WITHIN THE TOWER.
