Critical current characteristics in high-temperature oxide superconductors.

Summary

Twinning planes, particles of Y(2)BaCuO(5) phase and copper-oxide plates are pinning centers observed in YBCO. Small defects such as those introduced by irradiation of neutrons or protons are also known to contribute to the flux pinning. The flux pinning mechanism by these defects and resultant critical current characteristics are argued and compared with various existing experiments. The attainable critical-current density by introduction of suitable pinning centers is also discussed.
