In the paper selected results of several research and development programs are reported. They were and still are being performed in national and international co-operation with partners from the shipping and also from the cryogenic industry. This condensed description of results can only give a broad impression of current research issues. The intention was to provide an overview of a research and development field that may become significant for the future.
