Heat transfer measurements on vacuum insulation cassettes.

Author(s) : MATTHIES R., WILD Y.

Summary

The measurements made on the vacuum cassette described are for comparison and interpretation of simulations of the thermal behaviour of vacuum cassettes as constituents of the insulation system currently under development for bulk transport of liquid hydrogen by sea. The measurements on the test rig constitute a considerable portion of the research project described in the introduction to the paper. The thermal simulations of the vacuum cassettes were carried out using the finite element method. The aim of the comparison is to obtain conclusions on the different cassettes which will eventually be used in the construction of the insulation system. The final version of the vacuum cassette will be incorporated in the overall mathematical model, which describe the complex tank structure.
