Summary

THE ACCELERATOR DIVISION OF FERMI NATIONAL ACCELERATOR LABORATORY HAS BUILT A CRYOGENIC TEST FACILITY WHICH OPERATES IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SUPERCONDUCTING COLLIDER < TEVATRON THIS FACILITY IS USED TO TEST SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNETS FOR THE SUPERCONDUCTING SUPER COLLIDER LABORATORY. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES THE CRYOGENIC INSTALLATION TO COOLDOWN EITHER THE TWO OR FIVE MAGNETS USED IN THE STRING TEST. EACH MAGNET (17 METER LONG) IS COOLED FROM 300 TO 4 K BY SUPERCRITICAL HELIUM. INSTALLATION OF THE TEST SYSTEM, FLOW DIAGRAMS, CONTROL SYSTEMS, TEMPERATURE, PRESSURE AND FLOW DISTRIBUTION ARE DISCUSSED.
