DESCRIPTION OF A PROCESS COMBINING METHANE LIQUEFACTION AND TH E REMOVAL OF SIGNIFICANT QUANTITIES OF CO2 VIA A METHOD CALLED < CONTROLLED FREEZE ZONE PROCESS >. THIS PROCESS MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO SEPARATE METHANE FROM ACID GAS IN A SINGLE DISTILLATION STEP. THE COLUMN IS PROVIDED WITH SYSTEMS DESIGNED FOR HANDLING THE FORMATION OF SOLID CO2 AND ITS MELTING WHERE IT OCCURS. THE OUTPUT PRODUCTS ARE PRACTICALLY PURE METHANE AT 186 K (-87 DEG C) AND LIQUID CO2 AT 273 K (0 DEG C). THE METHANE IS THEN LIQUEFIED WHEREAS LIQUID CO2 IS USED FOR COOLING BEFORE BEING DIRECTED INTO THE COMBUSTION CIRCUIT.
