CRYOPRESERVATION OF AUTOLOGOUS BONE MARROW AND THE CLINICAL USE.

Author(s) : SUMIDA S., et al.

Summary

BONE MARROW WAS ASPIRATED FROM 218 PATIENTS WITH ADVANCED UNRESECTABLE SOLID CANCER BEFORE MEGADOSE ANTICANCER CHEMOTHERAPY AND CRYOPRESERVED IN LIQUID NITROGEN FOR AUTOLOGOUS TRANSPLANTATION. ON THE 4TH OR 5TH DAY AFTER CHEMOTHERAPY, THAWED MARROW CELLS WERE INFUSED INTO THE ORIGINAL DONOR TO RESCUE MYELOSUPPRESSION. STATISTICAL RESULTS ARE GIVEN. MARROW CELLS FROZEN FOR 8 YEARS SHOWED EXCELLENT CFU-C AND CFU-E RECOVERY. THAT MEANS THE HEMATOPOIETIC INTEGRITY OF FROZEN THAWED MARROW CELLS HAD BEEN COMPLETELY PRESERVED.
