Author(s) : BEAUJEAN F.

Summary

THE BONE MARROW FROM 50 PATIENTS WAS FROZEN IN TWO FORMS: WHOLE CELLS AND BUFFY COAT PREPARED BY DENSITY GRADIENT ON FICOLL (IBM 2991). THE CRYOPROTECTANT IS DMSO AT 10%, COOLING RATE 1 K/MIN, STORAGE IN LIQUID NITROGEN. AFTER THAWING DMSO IS REMOVED. THE RECOVERY OF MARROW CELLS AND STEM CELLS WAS STUDIED IN VITRO. THAWED MARROW WAS TRANSFUSED, AFTER INTENSIVE CHEMOTHERAPY (POSSIBLY FOLLOWED BY TOTAL BODY IRRADIATION). HEMATOLOGICAL RECOVERY AFTER NORMAL TIMES WAS OBSERVED IN ALL CASES.
