Summary

The results of the experiment in which the authors studied the effect of final temperature on the postthaw survival (24 hour) revealed a decrease in the rate from -20 to -50 deg C. However the transfer temperature experiment proved that -40 deg C is the best temperature at which to terminate slow cooling. The proportion of larvae undergoing metamorphosis also supports this result. This result indicates a pratical method of cryopreserving the barnacle nauplii and opens up the possibility of expanding the same approach to other commercially important crustacean larvae.
