Summary

Embryogenic callus regeneration was obtained from different frozen embryogenic cell suspensions of Hevea brasiliensis. Higher freezing tolerance was induced when cells came from MH1 medium (9 micronM 3,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 9 micronM 6-benzyl aminopurine) and when the pregrowth medium contained 467 milliM sucrose incorporated over 20 to 30 days. The study of water content and freezing water evolution in plant material by differential microcalorimetry showed that decreasing these parameters was a necessary but not sufficient condition for cryopreservation.
