Summary
This brief overview considers fresh produce postharvest technologies in the context of their management. Five principal "take home" messages are offered for consideration. These are to adopt novel technologies, to optimize existing protocols, to apply systems management tools, to facilitate collaboration both vertically and horizontally, and to employ well and appropriately educated fresh produce technologists. As a "package", adoption of these measures can help to ensure that consumer expectations are met, if not exceeded.
