Defrost issues of display cabinets with direct-expansion evaporators and heat exchangers with secondary refrigerants.

Author(s) : MAO Y., HRNJAK P. S.

Summary

Three defrost modes of the same display case are compared: a) electrical resistance heater after operation in conventional direct-expansion mode; b) warm liquid; and c) electrical heater. The last two defrost types, are conducted after operation in secondary loop mode. Experimental analysis of defrost with warm liquid shows that heat exchanger defrost time could be reduced by increase of warm fluid temperature and velocity but defrost of other parts of the display case: air ducts, drip pan, etc., is not affected.
