Summary

The dehydration and hydration behavior of La-based mixed hydroxides were studied to develop a new material for chemical heat storage. It was demonstrated that the dehydration of La-based mixed hydroxides proceeded at around 300°C, which was lower than that in the case of authentic lanthanum hydroxide. These hydroxides showed higher hydration reactivity than lanthanum oxy-hydroxide (LaOOH), under hydration at 110°C with 7.4 kPa of water vapor after dehydration at 300°C. The heat output capacity of La0.50Y0.50(OH)3 was estimated as 282 kJ kg-1 after dehydration at 300°C. These results indicate that La-based mixed hydroxides are suitable for the utilization of industrial waste heat at around 300°C.
