Design and performance characteristics of a compact pump-free LiBr absorption refrigeration system.

Author(s) : GU Y., WU Y., LIU T., et al.

Summary

A second generator is designed in a new solar pump-free LiBr absorption chiller system to improve the solar energy utility efficiency. The required temperature of heat source is reduced (minimum starting temperature is only 68°C). The second generator is provided for the purpose of establishing the pressure difference between evaporator and condenser, and enhancing the performance of absorber due to the increase of the differential concentration of the solution between inlet and outlet of the absorber even in the condition of a lower initial solution concentration of 50%. By using second generator, the yield of condensate increases 1.68 times. The structure of the overflow-type spray system and the cross-flow horizontal falling film absorber/evaporator are optimized to make the refrigeration system be in steady continuous absorption/evaporation without the absorber/evaporator pump. The performance of the whole chiller system is improved, and the maximum COP reaches up to 0.787.
