Design features of a small oil-free, reciprocating, high pressure compressor.

Author(s) : BAUMANN H.

Summary

The paper describes the design concept of a small, oil-free, reciprocating high pressure compressor which was specially developed for natural gas applications in vehicles. The compressor head is also used in a small hermetically sealed compression unit for technical gases like nitrogen, air, argon, helium, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, etc. The compressor compresses the gas from atmospheric pressure to 20 megapascals. New design solutions for the valves, drive mechanism and high pressure seal are described and discussed.
