Summary

There is a need to plan properly and take appropriate measures as enumerated above while designing a refrigeration system in order to achieve energy efficient operation. The following thumb rules give the energy saving potential for ready reference: a refrigeration system will cost more than six times to run than to purchase; energy efficient equipment and system conceptualized at the design stage will save 20-50% running cost. Use of heat recovery wherever possible, e.g. to generate hot water using discharge gas heat, will not only reduce the fuel cost of generating hot water substantially but also increase refrigeration system efficiency.
