THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES A < FOURTH GENERATION > OF WATER CHILLERS USING SEVERAL SCREW HERMETIC COMPRESSORS IN PARALLEL. VAPOUR INJECTION, THE CONTROL OF THE LIQUID LEVEL IN THE FLOODED EVAPORATOR, THE IMPROVEMENT OF OIL CIRCUITS AND THE MICROPROCESSOR INTEGRAL CONTROL ARE DISCUSSED. THE UTILIZATION OF A TWO-STAGE CYCLE, WITH AN ECONOMIZER AND INTERMEDIATE PRESSURE VAPOUR INJECTION, IMPROVES THE EFFICIENCY AND THE REFRIGERATING CAPACITY. THE OPENING OF THE BALL VALVE OF THE ECONOMIZER IS CONTROLLED BY THE LEVEL OF LIQUID IN THE FLOODED EVAPORATOR. THIS TECHNICAL SOLUTION AVOIDS ENERGY LOSSES RESULTING FROM A GAS BY-PASS.
