Type of article: Article

Summary

THE IMPORTANCE OF REGENERATORS IN CRYOGENIC REFRIGERATORS IS HIGHLIGHTED AND THE DESIGN ASPECTS OF REGENERATORS ARE REVIEWED. THE VARIOUS METHODS WHICH HAVE BEEN USED TO CALCULATE THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT AND REGENERATOR EFFECTIVENESS ARE DESCRIBED. VARIATION OF EFFECTIVENESS WITH PARAMETERS SUCH AS MESH SIZE AND SPEED ARE PRESENTED AND DATA ON PRESSURE DROP ARE GIVEN. A METHOD OF CALCULATION FOR REGENERATORS OF BOTH THE FIRST AND SECOND STAGE OF A TWO-STAGE GIFFORD-MCMAHON CYCLE CRYOREFRIGERATOR IS DESCRIBED.
